Basic Healthy Habits

HYDRATE: Drink 1 ounce of water for every 2 pounds of body weight per day, plus an extra ounce of water for every ounce of coffee, tea, soda, or alcohol.  Each of these contains elements that further dehydrate the body.  Be sure to drink PURE water, not your local tap water.  The vast majority of people feel a significant increase in energy, mental focus, and well being as they properly hydrate their body.

AVOID SATURATED FATS AND PARTIALLY HYDROGENATED OILS: Consume only organic, cold-pressed or expeller-pressed oils.  The very BEST oil is Coconut oil, now readily available in the health food section of most large grocery chains.  It is semi-solid at room temperature, is white, and comes in a jar.  Coconut oil has many health benefits including improving arthritis-type symptoms and thyroid function.  Other good oils include Olive, Macadamia Nut, and Grape seed.  Avoid all margarines and anything with partially hydrogenated oil as an ingredient.

UTILIZE HEALTHIER CHOICES FOR RED MEAT, POULTRY, AND SEAFOOD: Switch to organic and grass fed red meats, wild seafood rather than farm-raised and organic free range poultry and eggs.  Reduce the overall intake of these forms of protein and substitute complete vegetable proteins.

REDUCE DAIRY: Include only organic whole milk, organic cream and ½ & ½, organic whole milk plain yogurt and kefir.  Plain is easy to jazz up with fresh fruit and natural sweeteners.  Organic is imperative as toxins are stored in the fat.  Goat’s milk is an excellent choice for babies and people with allergies.

NATURAL SWEETENERS: Switch from white sugar and all artificial sweeteners, to natural ones that do not spike blood sugar.  Several include xylitol, stevia, and blue agave.

EAT 100% ORGANIC FOODS AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE: You will greatly increase the nutrients your family is receiving, and greatly reduce the toxins from chemicals and additives your family is exposed to.

CARBOHYDRATE COMBINATION: When eating carbs, always include something protein, something fiber, and something with a good fat. This will prevent blood sugar spikes and help stabilize weight.

EXERCISE A MINIMUM OF 30 MINUTES A DAY, 3 TIMES PER WEEK: Exercise improves circulation and metabolism; cleanses toxins; increases serotonin and endorphins; reduces insomnia; stimulates the lymphatic system; reduces weight gain; guards against cancer, heart disease and osteoporosis; increases lung capacity; neutralizes the effects of stress…and so much more.

BREATHE: Practice diaphragmatic breathing to increase oxygen flow.  The area below the sternum should expand further than the upper chest when breathing correctly.  When we are not, we are robbing oxygen from the brain, the lungs, and the bloodstream.

INCREASE FIBER: Fiber in the form of whole grains and fresh, raw fruits and vegetables play a major role in balancing proteins and fats, as well as absorbing and eliminating toxins from the body before they are stored in our adipose tissue (fat).  Fiber is instrumental in keeping the bowel healthy and functioning efficiently.

AVOID SODAS: They contain Phosphoric Acid which leaches calcium from our teeth and bones, and greatly interferes with our crucial pH balance.  Most who eliminate sodas from their diet notice a reduction in inflammation, bloating, and fatigue within a few days!

BENEFICIAL SALT: Switch from standard iodized table salt to ones with mineral balance such as “Celtic Sea Salt” or “Real Sea Salt”.

CHEW VERY WELL: Chewing food well mixes sufficient amounts of the enzyme amylase from our saliva into our food before swallowing. This greatly benefits digestion, bloating, and the proper absorption of our nutrients.

AVOID PORK AND SHELLFISH: These are among the most toxic and parasitic of all foods. They are scavengers with the job of cleaning up waste which is the vast majority of their diet!

FORGIVE: The most debilitating stressor is that of unforgiveness.  Medical research is now determining the significant role that unforgiveness and bitterness play in cancer and degenerative diseases.  Unforgiveness affects the physical body in that it generates tissue acidity.  This, in turn, undermines the immune system, increases inflammation, creates an environment for disease, and leaches much needed minerals from the bones which leads to osteoporosis.  Forgiveness does not release the offender from his wrong. It just releases YOU from the bondage of bitterness.  When you forgive, all you’re doing is giving up your right to remain angry.  It has been said that “unforgiveness is like drinking poison and waiting for the other person to die.”  We also must remember to forgive ourselves!!
